Equipment
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Wire snippers (for trimming large matches, if needed)
Small scissors
Materials
1boxed safety matches(small kitchen matches or large wooden grill matches)
Strike strips from matchboxes
1small or large glass jar with a tight-fitting cork lid
Instructions
Step 1
Carefully remove the strike strip from your matchboxes. Keep it flat and intact for an even adhesive surface.
Step 2
Apply a small amount of hot glue to the top of the cork lid. Firmly press the strike strip onto the glue, centering it neatly.
Once the glue has dried, use small scissors to trim any excess from the strike strip for a polished finish.
Step 3
Place matches inside the jar with the match heads down (touching the glass, not the cork). Tightly close with the cork lid, ensuring the strike strip is on top.
Turn the jar upside-down so the match heads are pointing upward, with the cork sitting on a flat surface.
Notes
Avoid using super glue, or other glues with flammable elements in them. Hot glue is the way to go here! Make sure the cork lid is tight fitting! You must be able to pick up your cloche without the cork coming loose and spilling all your matches on the floor. Most of the thriftier safety matches have red or green match heads.
