DIY Dollar Store Match Cloche projects are easy, and the perfect way to elevate your home décor with a chic, boutique-inspired look for just a few dollars. With a few simple supplies from dollar stores, you can create a functional and stylish match display.

I just adore the cozy look of elegant match cloches. But the price tags can be a little shocking at $18-$20 for just a small one. That’s why I decided to make my own using budget-friendly supplies. With just $2 for a small cloche and $6 for a large one, this DIY project is a simple way to add a touch of sophistication to your space without breaking the bank.

Large or Small, Choose Your Cloche Adventure
- Small glass jar – $1 from Dollar General
- Large glass container – $5 from Dollar General
- Diamond large kitchen matches – $1 from Dollar Tree
- Diamond long reach matches – $4 from Dollar General

All The Supplies You Need
To create your DIY Dollar Store Match Cloche, you’ll need the following supplies.
- Small scissors
- Small or large glass jar with a tight-fitting cork lid
- Safety matches (small kitchen matches or large wooden grill matches)
- Strike strips from the matchboxes
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Wire snippers (for trimming large matches if necessary)

Matches
For the small match cloche, large wooden kitchen matches fit perfectly in a smaller jar. If you’re going for a larger cloche, choose wooden grill matches for that oversized, elegant look. Depending on the jar’s size, you may need to trim down the long matches using wire snippers. More on that later.

Cut Off the Strike Strip
Carefully cut the strike strips from your matchboxes. These strips will be used to create a functional striking surface for your matches. Make sure to keep the strip flat and intact for an even adhesive surface.

Hot Glue the Strike Strips
Cut the strip into pieces to completely cover the cork lid. Apply a small amount of hot glue to the top of lid and secure the strike strips, ensuring they stick firmly.

Trim
Once the glue has set, use small scissors to trim any excess from the strike strip. This keeps the edges clean and the striking surface is hidden when the cloche is upright.

Place Upside-Down for a Cloche Look
For a true match cloche aesthetic, store your matches upside-down with the cork and strike strip on the bottom. This adds to the decorative appeal – but you could also store them right-side up, if you prefer.

Make a Large Match Cloche
For a larger display, find a tall glass jar with a cork lid. Larger wooden grill matches add a dramatic and elegant effect. If your matches are too tall, simply trim them to size with wire snippers.

Add the Strike Strip
As with the small cloche, glue the strike strip securely to the cork. Ensure it’s well-positioned for ease of use. The cork lid adds a rustic, stylish element that complements the natural look of the wooden matches.

These DIY Dollar Store Match Cloches are a simple and affordable way to bring boutique style to your home. Whether displayed upright or upside-down, they add both form and function to your décor.
